Story Writing

We are almost done our books! We have been working for weeks on writing stories and the children are so excited to eventually share the end result with you!

Poem/homework for week of May 8th - Mommy!

In honour of Mother's Day this Sunday we wanted to do a poem about moms and this is what the class chose. We had a few different songs we were trying out, but this is the one they liked the best! The homework for this week is simply asking students to draw a picture and write a sentence about Mother's Day or about their moms and to try to use the word mommy in their sentence as that is the word we are learning to spell.

Adding!

Whenever we are learning different strategies we make an anchor chart together and post it up in the room somewhere for quick reference. These are the strategies we've been using to learn how to add and subtract!

Also, our poem/homework for this week is all about adding!

Morning Message

We have been working very hard lately at learning how to read! Here is a sample of an activity we do daily. The teachers will write a good morning message on the board and we will work together to figure out what it says. Some days there may be missing words, we may leave out punctuation, we might misplace capital letters or we may just write a complete message with no mistakes!

WWF Adoptions

Our WWF animals have arrived! The snow leopard was symbolically adopted by the boys and girls in our class while the tiger was adopted by me! I have decided to name the tiger Raja, after the tiger in Aladdin. We are still voting on a name for the snow leopard. The top 3 vote getters right now are Lala, Judy and Carrot!

Poem/Homework - Week of March 20th

Welcome back from March Break! Here is our poem/homework for the wee of March 20th. We have been learning about the 5 senses and the human body!

"I wonder..." and "I know..."

I know these pictures may be difficult to see, but I am so proud of all the students and the work they did here! I asked them to go home and tell their families Miss Pal was very proud of them. (I hope they did!)

The students have been very excited to be able to collect enough money (thank you!) to send to the WWF to help the snow leopards so we decided to learn more about snow leopards. We started by discussing as a whole class, brainstorming as many questions about snow leopards as we could and then doing large group research sessions on these questions.

After a week of learning about snow leopards together, I worked with small groups or individual students to write out their "I wonder..." statement about snow leopards, research the answer together and then to write out their "I know..." statements together.

Every student had a great time learning and working on this inquiry! Great job!

Happy New Year!

Happy Lunar New Year to those that are celebrating! We had made some lanterns to mark the occasion, but in all the pyjama day fun it slipped my mind to send them home yesterday. I will do so on Monday!

Pyjama and Literacy Day!

We had a great time celebrating Family Literacy Day today! We have been learning about fairy tales and how to retell stories. We've also been learning about identifying characters and settings. We decided to try writing our own fairy tale today! I will post the final story soon. We ended the day by reading our favourite books with our reading buddies while being all snuggly in our pyjamas.
