We learned a poem about measurement this week. It was to the tune of London Bridge! Students were asked to find one item shorter and one item longer than a popsicle stick, to trace them and write down what they are.
Just a place for parents, students and educators to see what we've been up to in our Kindergarten class this year!

Valentine's Day/100 celebration & Poems For Past 2 Weeks
We had a wonderful, albeit tiring, day today! We've been counting daily and today was the day we reached the number 100! We had a joint celebration for 100 and Valentine's Day today.
We made number 100 crowns, we made necklaces out of 100 Fruit Loops, we walked 100 steps (it took us to the grade one classroom) and we named 100 animals! I didn't think we could do it, but with help from the other Kindergarten class, we did!
We had a lot of fun making and exchanging Valentines as well! We decorated our own, special Valentines bags to hold our cards and we made Heart People.
I am attaching pictures for the poem from last week and this week as well to this post, as I didn't get a chance to post them sooner.
Last week we worked on learning Sight Words, while this week our poem was to do with counting to 100 days.

February Newsletter
Dear Parents,
Here is an overview of what will be taking place in the Kindergarten throughout the month of February.
Valentine’s Day/100 Celebration
On Thursday, February 14th we will be having both our Valentine’s party and our celebration of the number 100. You do NOT have to send in treats for this day. Treats will be provided by the teachers. You should send snacks and lunch to school as you normally would on this day. For those of you making or sending Valentine’s cards for the other children, please encourage your child to sign each Valentine themselves as it is a wonderful way to practice writing one’s name. Please make sure you include all the children in the class. A list of names was sent home, but if you need another, please see us. Also, as mentioned, we will be celebrating the number 100 on this day too! For more information, please see the 100 Celebration note, which was also sent home.
Math
In class, we will begin working on measurement. We are learning the concepts of long/short, big/small, heavy/light, hot/cold, empty/full. We encourage you to practice measuring with your children in everyday situations such as seeing whose shoes are longer, whose plate is bigger, how many cups will it take to fill up the soup pot, etc.
We continue to explore numbers in our everyday activities such as counting (1, 2, 3 and 1st, 2nd, 3rd), reading the numbers, writing the numbers and matching the numbers with the same amount of objects. You can reinforce these concepts at home by counting the steps, place settings at the dinner table, how many apples in the bag at the store, etc.
Science
Thank you again to all of the parents who came in to volunteer for our Scientist in the School presentation. We continue to learn and explore with magnets. We have also been covering the broad topic of winter this term in science. More specifically, we have discussed the appropriate clothing worn during the winter months (ex/ hat, jacket, snowpants, mittens etc.) as well as the weather changes that occur at this time (e.g, temperature drops, water freezes to ice, snow falls from the clouds). Each season brings exciting new changes, please continue to discuss them further with your child at home.
Reporting
JK students will receive a Junior Kindergarten Summary this month. SK students will not receive a report this term. As part of our reporting process, we invite you to either come in for a short visit in the classroom during school hours or to come in for a parent-teacher interview. More information to follow.
As always, thank you for your on-going support.
Please do not hesitate to touch base for a few minutes after class if you have any questions or concerns.
